Eastman Kodak?s US office has today announced the first EasyShare digital camera to include Kodak CMOS sensor technology.
Billed as an entry-level model the EasyShare C513 is a five-million-pixel compact camera with a 3x optical zoom, 2.4in screen and digital image stabilisation.
It includes a Kodak-made KAC-05011 CMOS image sensor.
However, we understand that this is not the same ‘groundbreaking’ CMOS sensor claimed by Kodak to boost sensitivity to light by up to 4x (see AP 30 June). This is not expected to be available until next year.
?Traditionally, CMOS has allowed for lower cost camera design but was not able to provide top image quality,? claimed Kodak?s Digital Capture and Devices general manager John Blake.
He added: ?Kodak has changed that dynamic with the introduction of a digital camera at a remarkable affordable price without compromising image quality or camera function.?
The camera will not be available in Europe, though Kodak’s UK office has not given a reason for this.
The EasyShare C513 is due out in the US next month priced at ?less than $99?.
In a short statement Eastman Kodak claims the camera delivers ?excellent colour reproduction and dynamic range and low electronic noise?.
