The winner of the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards will receive a one-week photographic safari in southern Tanzania, plus a Nikon D750 DSLR kit.

The closing date is 1 October 2015.

Will Travers OBE, founder and president of Born Free, which is backing the awards, said: ‘At Born Free, the stories we hear about wildlife are, all too often, filled with gloom and suffering.

‘So it is wonderful – for a change – to consider the naturally humorous side of nature.

‘Baby elephants playing, lion cubs pulling their father’s tail, wild chimpanzees enjoying a game of rough and tumble – I have seen them all and they never fail to bring a smile to my face.’

Wildlife expert Kate Humble, one of the judges, said: ‘Watching wildlife is always fascinating, often surprising and sometimes incredibly funny.

Humble added: ‘The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards will not only celebrate the funny side of the natural world, but also remind us of the wonderful diversity of creatures that we share our planet with, and how important it is that we protect them.’

Competition founder and wildlife photographer Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE said he is passionate about conserving wild environments, ‘which is why it’s so important to make sure that when we are taking pictures we are also taking care of the creatures we are photographing’.
