The student photographer of the year contest is open to full-time photography students and offers a prize worth £894 to the winner.

It is being organised by The Societies, a body that includes the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers.

The Societies’ CEO Phil Jones said there will be no preference on genre.

He added: ‘We are eager to see a broad range of topics… from images captured on high-end cameras to images showing the capabilities of smaller cameras or even mobile phones.

‘We are simply looking for creativity and imagination.’

The closing date for entries is 31 December 2013.
