The dawn of a new video-enabled era for Micro Four Thirds cameras does not spell the end of ‘Four Thirds’ models, according to a Panasonic spokesman.

Speaking at a PMA conference to mark the official unveiling of the video-equipped Panasonic GH1, a UK spokesman said that the Four Thirds format is not redundant.

However, he told Amateur Photographer that the launch of another Four Thirds format digital SLR is not on Panasonic’s ‘short term road map’.

He said that, this year at least, the firm’s ‘energies’ will be focused on the Micro Four Thirds format.
