Panasonic: Olympic photographers must check rules
July 27, 2012
The move effectively bans amateur photographers from bringing any Panasonic interchangeable-lens models to the venue, even though the company is a key Olympic sponsor.
The blanket restriction applies whether or not the images are intended to be used commercially.
In response, a spokesperson for Panasonic’s sponsorship team has since told Amateur Photographer: ‘Panasonic’s consumer and video cameras comply with regulations at most London 2012 venues.
‘Please check the Ts and Cs [terms and conditions] on your tickets before travelling to the venue.’
The news comes as Panasonic today names the sports photographer who has been given licence to use the firm’s latest compact system camera, the Lumix DMC-G5, at the Games.
Photographer Dean Mouhtaropoulos, who has worked at Getty Images for nine years, will shoot photos that will be shown each day of the Games at the Getty Images Gallery in Stratford.
