One in five prefer dentist to portraits

November 14, 2006

Around one in five people would rather visit the dentist than have their picture taken, according to a poll by Fujifilm USA.

Of those surveyed 18% would prefer go to the dentist, 44% would opt to do the laundry, while 34% would rather ?pay bills? than pose for a picture.

The poll found that 73% of women ?feel uneasy? in front of the camera, compared with 50% of men.

?Weight and hairstyle concerns are the main reasons for their ?picture phobia,? explained a spokesman.

The survey coincided with the launch of a new website promoting Fuji?s Face Detection Technology which Fujifilm USA hails as a cure for ?picture phobia?, by automatically detecting up to 10 faces in a scene. ?With the correct focus and exposure, the faces of photo subjects are sharp, in their best light and looking their very best,? claims Fuji.
