Olympus scandal whistleblower Michael Woodford has been shortlisted for The Contrarian Prize 2013.
Woodford (pictured), who helped expose a £1.1-billion accounting cover-up at Olympus Japan in 2011, is on a shortlist of five that includes Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party and Giles Fraser, a former canon chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral who resigned after expressing sympathy towards anti-capitalism protesters in 2011.
To be eligible for the prize, candidates must have demonstrated the following: ‘Introduction of new ideas into the public realm and an impact on the public debate; Independence of thought and judgement; Courage and conviction in his/her actions; and Sacrifice by putting principle above personal advancement.’
The winner will be announced on Monday, an awards spokesperson has told Amateur Photographer.
