Olympus UK has revealed the official UK specification of its latest digital SLR camera, the 10-million-pixel E-420 which boasts an improved Live View system.
Replacing the E-410 DSLR the Four Thirds system newcomer is expected out in ?late April? in a kit priced £379.99 which includes a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.
The E-420 carries a body only price of £339.99.
Also launched is a ?compact? 25mm f/2.8 pancake lens (pictured below) which will be included in a kit with the camera, priced £449.99.
The 25mm lens delivers the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 50mm optic. It will be also sold separately priced around £190.
The E-420 sports a 2.7in LCD screen with Live View aimed at delivering 100% coverage of scenes being photographed.
Features aimed at improving Live View include the addition of a contrast AF system which is fully compatible with Olympus?s Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6; 40-150mm f/4-5.6; and 25mm f/2.8 ?pancake? lens.
A free firmware update will allow contrast AF with other lenses, according to Olympus UK.
Using contrast AF, the AF mirror does not need to move into the down position for measurements to be taken, and effects of AF can be viewed on the Live View LCD screen immediately. Also featured is a phase detection AF system.
Shadow Adjustment Technology aims to improve reproduction of dark areas of the picture by adjusting exposure settings accordingly.
The E-420 also includes Perfect Shot Preview, a mode which enables the effects of exposure compensation and white balance to be monitored in ?real time?.
The debutante boasts a continuous burst rate of 3.5 frames per second for up to eight raw format images, claims the firm.
Armoury also includes a TruePic III image processor, Face Detection Technology, a top equivalent ISO of 1600 and wireless flash control.
Available kits will include one with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and 40-150mm f/4-5.6 lens, priced £479.99.
