Olympus UK has issued a statement after a batch of Olympus mju Tough 6010 digital compact cameras were hit by a computer virus.

Though not thought to have affected any cameras to have reached the UK, Olympus UK’s Consumer Products marketing manager Mark Thackara told us: ?We are assured it is Japan only but, naturally, we will continue to monitor.?

The virus only becomes active when the camera is connected to a PC via a USB terminal, according to a warning issued by Olympus Japan yesterday.

It is understood that more than 1,700 units have been affected.

Thackara urged anyone with concerns to call the Olympus Europe helpline on 0800 111 4888.

Launched last year, the ?shockproof, freezeproof and waterproof? mju Tough 6010 carries a 12-million-pixel imaging sensor.

The camera sports a lens delivering the 35mm viewing angle equivalent of a 28-102mm zoom.
