Olympus today maintains it is ?not aware? of any investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into the fees scandal that has enveloped the company over the past ten days.
The New York Times first reported that the FBI had become involved in the controversy, which centres on high fees paid by Olympus to financial advisers.
British-born CEO Michael Woodford was sacked after he quizzed colleagues about the payments.
The crisis has seen the firm?s share price plunge more than 50%.
Asked to comment on press reports that FBI agents are investigating, Olympus spokesperson Ayako Nagami told Amateur Photographer: ?As I told you yesterday, we are not aware of any investigations.?
Nagami declined to comment on whether Olympus would support any FBI probe.
Olympus?s Tokyo office has been left to field questions from the world?s media as Olympus Europe and Olympus UK remain tight-lipped.
The FBI?s New York office has yet to respond to our request for comment.
