Olympus hands out free cameras in double-bluff April Fools stunt

April 1, 2015

Lucky members of the public receive their Olympus cameras on April Fools Day

Posts on Olympus social feeds told anyone in the London area to head to Picadilly Circus, where they would be greeted by Santa Claus and several dancing elves.

Participants were then instructed to sit on Santa’s knee and shout ‘OM-D it’s Christmas’, whereupon the first arrival would receive an Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II. Two runners-up would instead receive Olympus tough cameras.

Sounds like a classic setup for an April Fools’ prank, however the gag gift did indeed turn out to be genuine, and the curious people who turned up at the chosen location were greeted by Santa and his elves before being presented with the promised cameras.
