Landscape photography and Cumbria go hand in hand, so when landscape photographers saw the destruction caused by the latest floods they were keen to raise money for the many victims.
Mark Littlejohn, who is leading the campaign, won Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2014
The fundraising campaign is being spearheaded by former Landscape Photographer of the Year winner Mark Littlejohn, who has already raised more than £5,000 for the Cumbria Flood Appeal.
Littlejohn, who won Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2014, has now joined forces with photographers including Doug Chinnery, Charlie Waite and Joe Cornish to organise a charity print auction of their work on 21 February.
‘As landscape photographers, we love Cumbria for its beauty and tranquillity,’ said Littlejohn in a statement.
‘So when we saw the devastation caused to the local communities and landscape by the recent floods, I am sure we were all deeply saddened.
‘As a result, a group of us – as landscape photographers in the UK – decided to try to give something back to help Cumbria and the Cumbrians as they rebuild and repair their lives and the area.’
The charity print auction on 21 February will be held on the same day as a series of informal photo walks, during which participants can learn from professional photographers skills such as composition and camera techniques.
The day will conclude with illustrated talks by Mark Littlejohn, Paul Mitchell and Joe Cornish.
Littlejohn today told Amateur Photographer: ‘I managed to raise just over £5,000 by asking for donations and then putting the names into a hat for a full day’s workshop with me.
‘The next £5,000 has been raised by Doug Chinnery and I am arranging some photowalks at Glenridding on 21 February.’
Tickets cost from around £38 and include a buffet lunch at The Inn on the Lake, which is located in Glenridding, a village by Ullswater that was struck three times by floods last month.
However, Littlejohn said tickets for the photo walks sold quickly.
The photographers are raising money on behalf of the charity Cumbria Community Foundation.
