HP has replaced the R707 with the 6.2MP Photosmart R717. The £199 model has a brushed stainless steel front with a rubberized back, 12 shooting modes, a 1.8-inch LCD and a host of manual overrides that can be saved as custom settings.

Other functions include HP Adaptive Lighting, which brightens selected areas of highcontrast photos to give brighter, more true-to-life shots, and incamera red-eye removal system. £249 will buy you a BMW Williams F1 Team version of the 4MP HP R607. It has a 3x zoom, eight shooting modes, 6cm macro, HP Adaptive Lighting and in-camera red-eye removal. It also offers HP image advice for instant analysis on how to take better photos.

The HP M417?s price has yet to be confirmed, but the 5.2MP camera has a 1.8in LCD, 3x optical zoom, and 16 Mb internal memory. Finally HP announced the £99 M22 and £129 M23.

The M22 is available in silver; the M23 in bronze. Both have a weather-resistant, all-metal case, multizone AF and 4MP. Both have fixed-focal-length lenses; the M22 offers 6x digital zoom, the M23 7x digital zoom.
