The move to increase capacity of G-Technology’s range of storage solutions has been made in order to keep up with the growing needs of creative professionals and consumers capturing vast amounts of high-resolution content, including video and digital photography.

Recent years have seen the need for storage increase rapidly for consumers and content creators, as 30 minutes of 4K footage on an iPhone can take up 11GB of space, and 4K resolution of video at 60fps can create 400MB per second of raw footage. The capacity needed to back-up footage, and for post-production and transferring content to clients, has led to a massive need for greater storage capacities.

Mike Williams, vice-president of G-Technology, said: ‘By 2020, industry experts predict that the media and entertainment industry’s storage requirements will grow by nearly five times, and the average consumer will need an enormous 5.2TB of storage. G-Technology is dedicated to providing reliable, fast, stylish and easy-to-use storage solutions that fit the current and future needs of professionals and consumers alike.’

Shane Hurlbut, member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC), said: ‘As a director of photography and cinematographer, who uses G-Technology products on shoots of all sizes, I’ve experienced first-hand the need for larger storage capacities as high-resolution content has become an industry standard. I’m excited G-Technology is updating the products I’ve used and have trusted over the years to address this increasing need for higher capacity storage for both professionals and consumers.’
