Jessops is set to close its store in Hinckley Road, Leicester, once billed as the world’s largest photography store.

Jessops marketing director Brian Linnington told Amateur Photographer that the closure is part of Jessops ‘ongoing property portfolio review’.

He added: ‘We already have another retail store in the Leicester city centre area, at Granby Street, and we are in discussions about other retail opportunities in the Leicester area.’

Jessops, which has its head office in Leicester, moved to the 20,000 sq ft premises in the 1970s. ‘At the time it was quoted in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest photography store, and it soon became a real draw for photo enthusiasts up and down the country,’ states the firm’s website.

The store will close on 30 November.

Jessops is poised to open a store at the new Westfield shopping Centre in White City, London.
