Next month will see the launch of an international photography competition dedicated to the ?erotic? image.

Boasting a top prize of £1,000, the Erotic Photographer of the Year Prize is organised by The Erotic Review, a publication that claims the erotic image has become a ?victim of its own success?.

A spokesperson explained that the internet has eroded many of the traditional ways for photographers to show off their work, citing falling demand for ?glamour? magazines.

?Despite the seemingly endless supply of erotic or pornographic imagery, the reality is that opportunities for photographers to present their work are more limited than ever before,? added the publication.

The Erotic Photographer of the Year Prize will be open to amateur and professional photographers. It opens to the public on 22 October.

Entry costs £25 for a series of up to 12 images.

In a statement, The Erotic Review continued: ?We do not intend to censor, categorise or theme ?erotica?. This is simply a search for exceptional erotic imagery. We have placed only a few restrictions for photographs suitable for the Erotic Photography Award and that it must represent sexuality of a single person or between consenting adults.?

The rules stress: ?We will not tolerate any works that include references to minors or animals. Otherwise we want to encourage imagery expressing all aspects of sexuality and subject matter, heterosexual, gay and lesbian, transsexual, fetish and other alternative lifestyles.?

The organisers say they plan to run the competition every year, adding: ?Now that digital photography has made cameramen of us all, the genre has mushroomed into a vast form of private vision and individual expression.?

Full terms and conditions for the competition have yet to be announced.

The deadline for entries is 12 December 2007 and winners will be notified on 14 February 2008.
