‘Before this camera, the only way to zoom in on a subject or object was to fly closer to it,’ said DJI’s senior product manager Paul Pan.
‘Now, pilots in a search-and-rescue situation, or conducting surveys or inspections, can maintain distance and still zoom in for sharp, detailed images.’
Priced £799, the Zenmuse Z3 features a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and aims to achieve a 7x zoom by combining a 3.5x optical zoom with a 2x digital zoom.
The optical zoom delivers an effective zoom range of 22-77mm, according to DJI.
The Zenmuse Z3 houses a Sony 1/2.3in imaging sensor, the same as that found on the Inspire 1 and Phantom 4 drones.
‘It can shoot still images at 12 megapixels with additional Adobe DNG raw support for maximum editing options in post-production,’ adds DJI.
‘The camera also shoots video at up to 30fps in 4K resolution.’
The Zenmuse Z3 is due out from the end of July.
