A Nikon D50 digital SLR kit can be won in a combined photography and writing competition.

Entrants must photograph their favourite autumn plant or flower and include a close-up shot, as well as a medium-range and a long-range (garden scene) photograph.

Submissions should be in the form of colour transparencies, prints with a minimum size of 10x8in, or digital images from a ?digital SLR of no less than 5 megapixels?, at 300dpi resolution and saved as TIFF files on a CD.

Entrants must also write, in no more than 100 words, why this plant (or flower) is so special to them.

The top prize is a Nikon D50 with an 18-55mm lens. The 19 runners-up will receive a copy of the new RHS Encyclopedia of Perennials, due to be published this autumn and worth £25.

The closing date is 24 November 2006.
