Polaroid has used CES to finally unwrap its first digital compact camera with a built-in printer. However, at this stage, the already delayed camera is still just a prototype.
The printer uses the same ZINC printing technology as featured in the standalone Polaroid PoGo printer launched last year. Like the printer, the camera delivers 2x3in prints.
?With the push of a button consumers can select from among the digital photos on camera, crop or edit them in less than 60 seconds and print full-colour prints,? said Polaroid UK?s marketing manager Lindsay Kelson.
She said that the camera will not be available until the ?second quarter? of this year, though she hinted it could be out as early as April.
Kelson explained that the product on show at CES in Las Vegas is an ?American prototype? and specification is yet to be finalised.
Though the name of the new camera is yet to be confirmed it is currently being referred to as the ?Polaroid PoGo Instant Digital Camera?. It will measure 4.7x3in and weigh ?10 ounces?.
The camera is expected to cost Euros 249 but its UK price is yet to be confirmed to allow for currency fluctuations between now and the launch date.
The camera had initially been due to be launch before Christmas.
Polaroid is also working on plans to launch a camera that delivers prints that measure the same size as the film camera that made it famous.
