CES 2013: Olympus gets Tough at CES
January 8, 2013
The Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2 (pictured above, left), TG-830 and TG-630 line-up alongside two new ‘slimline zoom’ models in the shape of the SH-50 and SZ-15.
The 12-million-pixel TG-2 is claimed to be operable underwater down to 15m. Features also include a 4x zoom (with a 25mm wideangle), GPS and an e-Compass mode.
Due out early next month, priced £349.99, the TG-2 includes a microscope mode to further magnify images, plus full HD video.
It is also compatible with Toshiba-made FlashAir Wi-Fi cards.
The 16MP TG-830 and 12MP TG-630 each sport a 5x zoom and cost £249.99 and £169.99 respectively. The TG-830 is not due out until mid-March.
Olympus UK has also launched new zoom cameras in what it describes as a ‘fast growing category’.
Hailed as the new Olympus Stylus Traveller flagship, the 16MP, £249.99, SH-50 (shown above, right) features multiple access image stabilisation (IS), FlashAir Wi-Fi card compatibility and is also due in March.
Its 3-axis IS is, at the time of writing, claimed to be a world first for digital compacts. It aims to optically compensate for ‘pitch, yaw and rolling blur’.
Also on board is Hybrid 5-axis IS, designed to counteract movement around the lens axis, in addition to yaw and pitch, plus horizontal and vertical shift when shooting full HD videos.
Finally, the SZ-15, priced £179.99 incorporates a 25-600mm (35mm viewing angle equivalent) zoom and a 16MP CCD sensor.
