Canon unveils lens prototypes

October 16, 2007

Canon has today revealed plans to launch two new professional lenses for SLRs in the shape of the EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM.

Still in the development stage the ?professional L-lenses? include Image Stabiliser technology.

A Canon UK statement adds that they will also incorporate ?special optical materials such as fluorite to correct chromatic aberrations and offer the highest levels of resolution and contrast when using these lenses?.

Development of the 800mm optic follows requests by news and sports photographers for a ?high-performance lens that offers a longer focal distance,? according to Canon.

More details are due to be released in early 2008.
