Essentially, we are looking to recognise and celebrate the hard work and community spirit of amateur photographers across Britain. So, if you know somebody who is using photography in a really positive way, but isn’t getting the recognition they deserve, we want to hear about them.

It could be somebody who is encouraging kids or vulnerable adults to get into photography, or taking pictures to help a local pet rescue centre. Maybe they are a nature photographer working hard to draw attention to an endangered species or fast-disappearing habitat, without asking anything in return.

Or maybe it’s somebody who has used photography to help themselves or others get over anxiety and depression, or some kind of physical disability or illness. If there is somebody doing this kind of great work but staying under the radar, we want to celebrate their achievements.

Once we have received the nominations for all the unsung heroes, the editorial team at Amateur Photographer will select the winner who will then be invited to accept their award at our glittering ceremony in central London in February. We’ll then share their story with our readers and the wider world, via the pages of AP and our website.

Please email xxx@xxx.co.uk with your nominations. You will need to tell us in 200 words or less which unsung hero you are nominating (you can nominate yourself) and why. Please also include any links to relevant photography, or attach images as necessary. The closing date is xxx. For a full list of terms and conditions, see here.
