AP’s art editor chooses his favourite reader
image from the past week’s uploads to our Reader Gallery.

I usually make a
selection of my potential favourites throughout the week without reference to
who the photographer is. When I came to make my final decision this week, I was
surprised to find that three of the five images I had chosen were by the same photographer,
Tony Cook. Each one is completely different from the other. Despite nearly
being swayed by Tony’s ‘Passion flowers’, I’ve decided to stick with the image
that first caught my eye, ‘Portsmouth-Bilbao ferry’. It’s a detail of a ferry
bulkhead, and it immediately reminded me of a series of paintings called
‘Protractor Series ’67-’71’ by American artist Frank Stella. A nicely spotted
minimalist abstract, Tony.
