Amateur Photographer reports from the Nikon stand at CES 2015
At CES 2015, Nikon had the most to shout about, with its announcement of some big products. First is a brand-new addition to the D5000 series in the form the Nikon D5500. This is a 24.2-million-pixel, DX-sensor DSLR aimed at the enthusiast photographer. From its predecessor, the Nikon D5300, there are a few key changes, including a redesigned grip and a fully articulated touchscreen display.

In addition to this, Nikon also announced two new lenses. The retractable AF-S DX 55-200mm f/4.5-f/5.6G ED VR II is tailored for the amateur market, and the incredibly small Nikon AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR prime aims to satisfy the professional and prosumer market.

Many people visiting the Nikon stand were keen to check out these new products, although the biggest draw was the DSLR line-up. As Nikon released the Nikon D750 and the Nikon D810 last year – which are arguably two of Nikon’s best DSLRs to date – it’s clear that these would command a lot of attention. A variety of Nikon representatives were on hand giving buying advice and demonstrating the products.
Elsewhere on the stand there was the Nikon School Theatre, where various Nikon Ambassadors, including Joe McNally, Dixie Dixon and Ron Magill, were present. Joe McNally gave a walk-through guide on shooting with Nikon Speedlights using a ‘showgirl’ model as his subject. He answered questions from the floor as he went along and it was amazing to see a large number of people engaging with him and getting the answers they needed. Overall, it was a very informative session for the audience.
Another seriously cool thing on the Nikon CES 2015 stand was the Nikon 360 project. A series of 48 Nikon D750 cameras were positioned in a circle and people were able to get inside and jump up. The cameras were triggered at the point of the jump and a 360° view was then viewable online and on the television behind.
