    <snip>

    If I had to guess, I'd suggest that something is wrong with one of the back-end servers affecting how the SSL certificate is being handled, and that it intermittently affects people based on which server they get and how their browser is configured.

    But trust me, AP has an issue with their website, it's not a user fixable issue.

    Because the site fails to load scripts, it also fails to load stylesheets and so shows the result you see - it's broken.

    Ahh. Got it.

    Someone's added the relevant settings so that the site is reachable via both http and https, but the https site is broken, because none of the links are https and so most browsers won't load them (as the above errors show).

    Anyone getting this issue, make sure you are ONLY using http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/forums and not https://

    Anyone NOT getting the issue - just try going to https://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/forums and then see what happens.

    @Mark101
    @alfbranch

    Make sure you're browsing to the non-https version (the links on the AP site might be wrong) and see if that fixes it.

    Evidence: Here's a screenshot of the http:// site

    and here's the https:// version

    I'll send you details of my hourly rate if you like although since it only took 10 minutes to diagnose the issue, it won't cost that much.

    It's not your users' problem, it's the site.

    Both work from my ipad. So it also depends on browser settings

    Yes, but https websites which present http links to critical components will fail on most modern secure browsers, including Chrome and Firefox.

    Or to be more specific, it's not a setting I can influence. The site is broken.

    And here's Chrome (I use Firefox normally). Left is http, right is https.

    And Microsoft Edge (which I run in a totally standard default config).

    I've just tried and works normally here. Ubuntu 18.04 with Chrome or Firefox.

    I went to my PC which runs uptodate Win 8.1. I googled AP. I went to the https site on Chrome. I chose the forums submenu item which took me to forums but warned that the site was insecure. Otherwise it worked just fine.

    I did the same on FireFox after updating to the latest version. So https site then linked through to forums. No warnings of insecurity and the site worked fine.

    I went back to Chrome - couldn't find any button or option to check for new version - or to tell me what version it was.

    I went through Chrome options - couldn't see anything that would toggle different security settings.

    On my mac the link to the main site shows a padlock - so https and I access as always through the forum submenu (when it appears - that is the fault with the occasional missing code) all works well.

    Tried Firefox with both forum page styles - it works.

    The only add-in I am running is Norton security - on both mac and PC.

    PS on PC also running windows defender

    "How do I determine what version of Google Chrome I'm using?"

    • Launch Google Chrome.
    • Click on the icon in the upper right corner that looks like 3 short bars.
    • Select Help then About Google Chrome to display the version number.

    The link from the main page takes you to the http:// version of the forum site.

    Have you tried typing

    https://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/forums

    in to any of those browsers?

    Not yet, to the last.

    But, to the first three. If the link to the forum from the main site is the http version, and it works, why the heck are you using the other link?

    I'm on Chrome and I followed the https link. Works as it should for me. Having said that it still shows as an insecure site. Typed the address using https:// and it goes straight to the insecure page but displays correctly.
