Well Jack what do you think ? It looks to me as though they've kept almost all the good bits
    Still metal body
    Still glass penatprism
    Still high magnification and view
    Still has decent diopter adjustment
Still same sensor and 3200 ASA mode

    Improved
    Connectivity USB 2
    Batteries rechargable or CV3
longer burst 8 frames instead of 5
Histogram preview ( at last )
    Bigger LCD display
Picture modes ( will help beginners)
    Higher flash sync speed
More adjustable processing options ( so people who say it's not sharp can turn it up )

    Lost
Flash socket ( shame but understandable in cheap model )
Graph in viewfinder ( shame as I like that on the Z1P )
Front thumb whhel ( shame as I like that on the Z1P )
1/8000th sec top speed ( cant say I've even used 1/2000 on the Z1P and that goes to 1/8000)
Compact flash ( that is a shame as they're the cheapest and available in bigger sizes)

sounds like we get almost as much camera for a lot less money bit less in some areas. They've obviousley listened to the feedback and kept all the really good bits and sorted all the gripes. Don't know about functionality with K lenses yet that's the only missing bit of the puzzle but I don't expect it's worth loosing sleep over.

    Hi all

"Don't know about functionality with K lenses yet that's the only missing bit of the puzzle but I don't expect it's worth loosing sleep over.
    "

If they do include full functionality with K-mounts, then this looks to be the DSLR I've been waiting for.

Supposed to be £700ish, what do you reckon the chances of that going up when it's released?

    Cheers
    Matt

K lenses is not a problem for me as I mostly have A or FA lenses anyway.

I think the new camera looks really good but there are three things that niggle me:

1 - no CF cards - only SD cards
2 - no battery grip - which is the best thing since sliced bread
3 - no AV wheel - this is really useful

Can't see why the price should go up it's supposed to be a budget model even if it's a very well specced model.

I seem to remember, when the *istD was coming out, there were some wild claims over its price that didn't materialise.

I can't remember details, but when I heard the price romours I was originally considering getting one and maxing credit card, but the actual release price was well out of my league. It may just have been some overeager comments on the forums that I got taken in by, but I'm sure there were claims that it would be the cheapest DSLR at that point - unfortunately that didn't happen.

I think the only accessory I will (maybe) miss will be the BP/VG...even if just
for the extra battery storage....But I will say "C'est la Vie"!!

*** I have checked the camera (specs) out quite thoroughly and, aside from the
BP/VG, I can't find any reason not to buy it which is why I put my order in
for one about 10 days ago and so now I play the waiting game like every-
one else. In fact, because I am in the camera retail trade I may have to
wait until the initial customer orders have been filled....which is only
    fair/img/wwwthreads/smile.gif.

So, John, have you been down to your local to put your order in yet/img/wwwthreads/wink.gif?

PS: and I really do apologise for withholding the information that I was
aware of but the Pentax Rep is a mate and I just wanted to see how much,
    if any, integrity I had.

    Morning Mattie,

Looks like you are buying yourself a DSLR/img/wwwthreads/wink.gif!!

As for a release date, I hope to find out (for Canada anyway) this week and,
FWIW, will let everyone here know....what I know!

You and me both...but I guess this time it will a "good news" and "bad news"
