So, I got the Sigma 17-70mm OS HSM lens the other day. I have found that it makes a rattling noise when unmounted and in the vertical position.

Only once I found that it made the noice when mounted and undertaking zooming.

I have read that it's quite normal for Sigma lenses. I am very worried though. It's my first DSLR (Canon 60D) and lens.

    Any help much appreciated!

    Hi Mark

I don't have any experience of this particular lens, but I do have a couple of Nikon VR lenses which have a slight rattle when shaken gently. VR (vibration reduction) is Nikon's equivalent of OS (optical stabilisation) and I understand it works by having a movable glass element in the lens to counteract camera movement when taking a shot. If Sigma's OS works in the same way, this may be what you can hear rattling?

My canon 17-85 IS also has a slight rattle when shaken.

It's quite normal, that's the impression I am getting. Hope you have a great new year!
