Just wanted to thank AP for its timing in publishing (issue that arrived today) an article on photography in a cold climate. It arrived just as I am collecting together the kit I need for a trip to Iceland early next month. I especially liked the tip about what to do with plastic bags (details withheld in order to boost AP's sales).

Myself and two children have booked a house in Stykkishólmur for a week and we will probably use it as a base to do some touring.

Not to familiar with the Snæfellsnes area but you have a Glacier Snæfellsjökull there near by and bird life. If you have a car then Surtshellir Iceland's biggest lava cave is not to far away, close to the cave are interesting waterfalls called Barnafossar and few big Glaciers.

We are really there to try to see the Northern Lights but I was just re-reading some old Icelandic sagas where the fiord is described as extremely beautiful

    Thanks for the tips.
