You are right Garry that news is imminent from Konica Minolta regarding the long awaited DSLR, however from what I have gleaned is that there is an embargo about the release until some point to-day the 11th prior to the PMA which starts to-morrow, like me you could alsways keep an eye on the Konica Minolta websites especially the US and Europe where hopefully the news will be released soon.

    fear...

Although I await the announcement with baited breath, as every other Minolta user is at the moment.

I can't quite shake of the 'fear' that they are going to:
1 - ditch the current lens system
2 - stay using SD cards instead of CF
3 - make is smaller like the A1
4 - make it non-compatible with current Minolta Accessories (Flash, etc)

Just keeping my fingers crossed that the waiting won't have been in vain and that we will finally have a DLSR we can be proud of.

FOndly remembers Minolta past breakthroughs in camera technology; SLR, autofocus, predictive autofocus, etc, etc

    from DPReview

Jsut been reading the forum on DPReview and read this message from JasL (copied here without permission)

    Dear Minolta User,

Thank you for your interest in a Minolta Dynax Digital SLR. You have
previously contacted us in regards to this product class. As we did not
have a product to inform you of at that time we have registered your
details, in preparation to contact you when we did.

    Now that time has arrived.

In a few days the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) annual show will open.
The location this year will be Las Vegas. This is an important event within
the photographic industry and is often used to launch new products. In
recent years Minolta has used it to unveil numerous models including the
    DiMAGE 7.

This will be the first international show where the new Konica Minolta
brand will be present. This is an ideal opportunity to show the vision and
    direction of the new company.

The embargo of these new products will be lifted on 11th February 21:00
CEST. As Las Vegas is eight hours behind the UK this translates as 12th
    February 05:00 here.

With the speed of the Internet official information will begin to appear
almost immediately. Please look to these websites to have details published
    first.

Konica Minolta is also going to host information on these products. We are

    Re: fear...

i really do hope it's of a similar level as the canon 10D rather than the 300D if you see what I mean.
I have made the decision to go digital this year and having got a few nice bits of minolta and minolta compatible kit, I don't really want to have to get rid of it. I don't want to turn to the dark side and move away from minolta, but if they haven't got the right kit then what else can be done.....

    Re: fear...

    100% with you on that.

I've been a minolta user since 1990 when I bought my first 7xi (got two now!) and as you can imagine I've got a whole host of kit for them; lens, flashs, etc, that I don't want to get rid of /img/wwwthreads/frown.gif

But... if they can't provide what I require then I am afraid I shall have to turn to the dark side and go down the path of Nikon or Canon!

    Re: fear...

    Fen,

Like me you have probably been keeping tags on a number of other Minolta Forums and the 'thinking' (OK considered speculation) is that when you consider that most of the Dynax/Maxxum recent accessories are compatible with the Dynax 7 and Dimage cameras e.g. Flashes so there is consistant use of the ADI capabillity (which again puts Konica Minolta ahead of the rest) the recent introduction of SSM 'D' lenses and convertors. Is that:-
    1) The lens system will be the current 'A' mount (OK for some focal lengths it will mean using 'D' series lenses and SSM for faster AF.
    2) Don't know but would think it strange not to use what is almost standard for high capacity needs i.e. Microdrive/CF capabillity
    3) Most considered opinion is that the Dynax 7 will be the basis of the DSLR
    4) No chance of that (See above) Konica Minolta are not going to create a totally new system i.e. lenses, flash, remotes etc that would be marketing suicide.

Well we'll know in a few hours

Sorry to tell you this Ron, but I am afraid Pentax, once again, has beaten
    Minolta Konica to the punch/img/wwwthreads/wink.gif!!

Seems to be out now - take a look at DPReview's brief summary. Looks very nice and decently specified - I'm sure it will be a big hit. And nice to see the Konica name back on a serious SLR camera again.

but what will be out by the autumn from other manufacturers??? will it still be a match for canon and the rest?

    i hope so!!!

Surely the only thing that matters is whether or not it gives Minolta lens users the digital option they have been waiting for? It doen't really matter what other manufacturers do, does it?

probably not from an individuals point of view, but from the konica minolta view would it be putting them at the leading edge.... or following the rest

if you see what i mean.
