Boys from my local Public School used to sneak into the local public library and ask for Amateur Photographer. Then they would sit in a corner with the invariable dossers and tramps and snigger while perusing it. It was along with exchange and mart known for a somewhat risqué content from time to time. Especially small ads. If really lucky they catch a glimpse of semi soft focus cleavage betwixt the risqué pages. Nothing along the lines of Penthouse or Playboy mind you-those too had an underground circulation- after lights out in the dorms, Nor Search or Relate which hit the shelves some time later in the early 1970s, Despite attempts at Censorship such publication would often be come across blowing down the path in woods. The X films at the cinema were a cinch. The old women on the door couldn't care tuppence if you were going on 13. They looked the other way as they took your pocket money which was all they cared for. The cinema has now been demolished. It was all part of the general permissiveness. Many a mind was affected with depravation and degeneracy. Though oddly the word 'pervert'was taboo.
