Can I ask, seeing as many members' sites offer prints for sale, whether anyone doing this gets many sales - if any?

I ask as I too have collections that in my prejudiced view (!) would look good in someone's home or office, but wonder whether real people actually buy prints off random websites? If anyone has experience of selling off the web page I'd be interested to know whether it was worth trying for a keen amateur such as many of us here.

I have images for sale on 500px.com for example but never any sales.:(

I appreciate it is a highly competitive market, and that the internet is saturated with photos, many of them extremely good and highly commercial. But just wonder if anyone has more success as an amateur than me!

    Hi Brian,

I'm not sure if stock agencies, etc ... scour 500px.com but I know that
Getty, if memory serves, scours Flickr and I know a few folks have been
approached to buy photos. Also, FWIW, the shots have, usually, been
quirky, to say the least :).

Also, I've never sold a pic from my blog (mainly because I haven't updated
it in several years) and I have about 20 pics on Flickr (from several years ago).
But, I have sold hundreds of my pics to newspapers and magasines, albeit mainly
    spot news stuff.

Cheers and all the best :)

Thanks Jack. Yes, on my Flikr account I opt in into Getty. I ought to proactively market what I think is the commercial stuff I have, libraries etc but there is always the fear of rejection!! I've had photos published in magazines such as AP which is hugely rewarding and would like that feeling more often!

    Hi Brian,

Firstly, rejection is part and parcel when in the (trying
to) flog pics to ....... anybody/where ;D. My usual
thoughts are, when sending a pic to a magazine/newspaper,
what's wring w/ this pic, why won't they want to run it?
It, usually, turns out (in the last few years, anyway) that
they like it but they just don't want to pay for it .... or they
will only pay a miniscule amount.

So, if you're not a fan of rejection, you might want to
    reconsider the flogging of pics.

Now, mind you, we're trying to sell, I'm guessing, different
types of pics. Mine are, usually, spot news ( fires, homicides,.
nasty MVA's, etc.. ) Whereas, you are, probably, trying
to sell feature pics -- pics that can stand the test of time,
    without becoming dated too quickly.
Personally, I think Flickr is the best route ... as long as
you're receiving enough cash to cover, at least, expenses
