Could be a source of amusement, post your own:-
They may appear to be contradictions in terms but they aren’t oxymorons.
So what would you class them as?
Well that went down like a lead balloon.
Contradictions in terms. An oxymoron is a conjunction of opposites - e.g a "perfect mistake". Like the leaden balloon Catriona just described!
A widely used example is "the same difference". Another might be "bittersweet".
I don't think we have to go far to find them.
Given the dictionary definition of an oxymoron includes the phrase ‘apparently contradictory Terms’ I think we can allow for a little flexibility in the fun and games room
That's a good one!
Wasn’t there a film called “ true lies” ?
When I get my vouchers from the Co-op I often wonder about Artificial Intelligence!
Who said there's no such thing as a free gift?
And how about the mother church with its priests called fathers?
Except myth-busters managed to make a lead balloon that floats (indeed rises). They actually found their initial calculations made it too buoyant if just filled with helium so they ended up using a mix of air & helium.
