Re: Anyone had it?

Judging from some of the web pages I found when researching Minolta kit for the Challenge the Rokkor name was actually dropped some time *before* AF arrived, because later MD lenses do not bear it, but are just plain 'MD' , rather than 'MD Rokkor'.

Re: Anyone had it?/its back now!

I phoned Westcliff today. There's good news and good news. the good news for me was that the Sigma 24 was still available (a Rokkor at this stage would be too serious). The good news for all of us is that there will be a new Westcliff website very soon which should actually work. I'm pretty sure that however I manoevre values in the 150 Challenge, I will not be able to include the 24. But for me, a system without a 24 is like a day without - .

Re: Anyone had it?/its back now!

Well I got a call from Westcliff with good news and bad news. Actually it was some confusion over the fact that I placed an internet order and then phoned it through as well because I didn't get the e-mail confirmation. Anyway the girl was telling me that the XE-1 had gone, because no fewer then *four* people had ordered it, but a 28mm lens I had gone for over the internet was there. When I explained about the later phone order (which was for XE-1 plus llama lens instead - I hadn't noticed it earlier) she confirmed that I *had* got it after all. Only it was one of those conversations where you put the phone down and immediately are unsure of what you have just been told (or is it just me who has those?). Now I'm not certain if she was confirming just the llama lens, or the XE-1 as well.

Never mind, the LL will arrive tomorrow - and then I'll know. :)

Clive, if you want to do two Challenge entries - one with the original and legal kit, and one that just slipped over budget (as long as it's a matter of just a few pounds) then I would still be interested in the results. You'd have to do two sets of photos though! :)

Just out of nosey interest, was this a black b/only XE-1 priced at £129 (or close). I put in an order for that last night and it seems to have gone in OK - certainly no "SOLD" message came up. Still, if its going to Dorset then not to worry - you can leave it me in your will (just before Big Will or Clive get in there!) /img/wwwthreads/wink.gif

    Re: New website

Hope so. It works OK in IE, but on Safari is hopeless. The only button that appears is the Used Equipment one, so its completely impossible to make any purchases!

Yes, sorry Tim, that was the one. I'll add you to the beneficiaries (that's if I actually get it myself). :)

That's interesting, Huw. Particularly as I have had an email from Steve Byford today to say there was a problem with the SRT101 (?like - he's sold too many?? /img/wwwthreads/wink.gif). So I'm getting an SRT100X and a 50/1.7 instead of a 55/1.7. No mirror lock-up or self-timer. With a 2x Tele-converter I might just be able to make the 150 - but we shall see. Depends what I finally end up getting I guess!

I think we have thrown the whole UK second-hand Minolta MF market into chaos! Does anybody know what they are actually getting tomorrow?

Re: Anyone had it?/its back now!

I'm sorry to hear that Clive - the 101 looks like a belter of a camera, but from what you say of the 100X it is more of a cut down version. Ah well, perhaps these are just exactly the difficulties the Challenge is there to show up. Maybe it's not that easy after all.

FWIW I've now tested the shutter on the SR1s, and although its speeds are very consistent and always within 1/3 of a stop of marked, it does have some speed variation across the gate - about half a stop to be precise. Most speeds are about 1/3 of a stop long on the right side of the frame, and 1/6 of a stop fast on the other. If I print with a little simple burning I can easily counteract that - but should it be deemed acceptable for the Challenge? I confess I'm not sure it should.

We shall see then! Someone did phone while I was out this morning but the person who answered didn't find out who - just that it was about a camera!! I'll have to get off line quick in case they want to call back.

I had an email from Steve to say the stuff I ordered is in the mail today (that saves a phone call!). Looks like I got the good SRT101 then. /img/wwwthreads/wink.gif

You must have a very good stop watch, Huw /img/wwwthreads/wink.gif. I think you are right about the problems of the "challenge" - and I shall enjoy the SRT100X nevertheless: but I have got the reversing ring which was my main concern. At least, at the last count I had!

You must have a very good stop watch, Huw

You probably could call it that - it's actually a Calumet solid state shutter speed tester - every large format photographer's friend. :)

Hope you get the RR. It occurs to me that if we ever do something like this again it might be a good idea to co-ordinate things somehow - three of us all trying to buy the same kit from the same dealers at the same time is not something I foresaw when planning the Challenge!
