Has anyone got or used one of these? If so, how sharp is it and how does it compare with the 24-105mm? Pretty please! :)

My current 'walk about' lens is a Sigma 24-135mm f:2.8-4.5, but frankly, it's not terribly sharp. I would be quite happy to shorten the zoom range if it improved optical quality. Not enough 24mp full frame users on Dyxum have rated it to make an informed opinion, and Kurt Munger hasn't reviewed it. I would not be using it with flash, so the lack of the 'D' doesn't bother me.

    Ta everso!

There is a 24-85 Maxxus that comes up in reviews as better than the longer lens.

there are two 24-85mm lenses , the first one has a smoth focus ring , the later one (24-85mm RS) has a ribbed focus ring and a circular aperature.
both are optically the same but the RS version gives a smother out of focus background and better bokeh.

with regards to the 24-105mm , @24mm on my a900 there is quite alot of vignetting.even stopped down it doesn't quite dissapear but is easy to correct in P.P . up to 85mm i think I.Q is about the same as the 24-85mm,but if i had to chose i would say the 24-85mm RS has the edge.
from 85-105mm , consider it a bonus compaired to the other two.not the sharpest lens at this focal length , but acceptable stopped down a bit.

don't forget this lens was carried on by sony but dropped after not long.

i have the three above minolta lenses as i've got quite a lot of lenses over the years as i started with film minolta cameras.when sony got the camera side of minolta the price of used lenses went free fall , so i got plenty !
i've kept them all, and now i've finally got an a900 second hand , i can finally see which lenses are the keepers.
of the three ,the 24-85mm RS spends most time on my camera as a walk around lens.

if you don't use 24mm too often but can make use of 105mm then i would strongly recomend getting the minolta 28-105mm RS ;http://www.dyxum.com/lenses/Minolta-AF-28-105-F3.5-4.5-RS_lens37.html , make shure you get the RS version and not the earlier one, mine at any rate is much sharper (than the original).
image quality overall is very good, sharp all over and good colour and bokeh.
if i'm walking around with this lens as i'm likely to need the long end rather than the wide end , i'll either take the minolta 17-35mm d with me or put the 24mm f/2.8 (original series) in my pocket.
