Copied from a post on a Minolta forum elsewhere the latest news from Focus regarding the DSLR.
"with a few snippets of info from the Minolta reps there. After
playing with the A2 and drooling over the D7D, I decided to pester
the reps for as much info as I could, obviously bearing it in mind
that I wasnt about to get a full spec for the D7D from them. What I
did manage to get from them was that the D7D will DEFINITELY be
released straight after Photokina. They also told me that it will be
compatible with ALL Minolta lenses dating back to 1985, all Dynax
accessories will be compatible INCLUDING the VC7 grip. As for
pricing they will be competing with the Canon 10D, Pentax ist*D etc,
and was told to keep an eye on these prices nearer the release date
for a Guestimate. I was also informed that the MP may change from
the intended 6mp. Another biggie I got from them was that they will
be releasing ALOT more lenses leading up to and after the release of
the D7D, and that we will be seeing alot more of Minoltas presence
    in the Media etc.

BTW they had a great looking stand which got the attention it
deserved, it was packed most of the day."

More encouraging news especially as the price, of the 10D is dropping /img/wwwthreads/smile.gif

    Roll on Photokina /img/wwwthreads/smile.gif/img/wwwthreads/smile.gif/img/wwwthreads/smile.gif/img/wwwthreads/smile.gif

"Great-looking stand"? It was as confusing as hell! It didn't look packed to me - just there were a lot of people trapped, who didn't know how to get away!/img/wwwthreads/wink.gif. Actually, although it was vastly less busy than the truly packed Canon stand, it did appear to be busier than the Nikon stand.
The D7D looked rather nice, although the "Konica Minolta" tag is just too long - it looks silly on the camera. There also seem to be far too many dials, switches and buttons - it reminds me of the days of the 7xi, a camera so bloody complicated to use I bought Canon....
Still, it's nice to see the Konica name on an SLR again - so all they have to do is drop the Minolta bit./img/wwwthreads/wink.gif

    Guess what I've bought....

    Photokina's in September, isn't it?
The 7xi was a great camera, but hardly intuitive - it baffled the hell out of me.
Anyway, I've just eBayed my first Minolta-branded camera (I already have a Minolta-made one, and fantastic it is too). This one's an SLR - any guesses as to which? (CLUE: it's not a 7xi!)

I think you're trying to throw us a wobly here Nick, my memory vaugly remembers you talking about looking for an 'SLR' system, I'm not going to ask you which lens mount but what film format does it use.

    No, it's not a trick question. It's a Minolta 35mm SLR.

Not one of the manual Minoltas I've seen, so what attracted you to it?

    Re: Guess what I've bought....

It's a product of the Minolta/Leica cooperation that led to the Leica CL and Minolta CLE on the rangefinder front, and the Leica R3 and Minolta XE series on the SLR front. Also, it's a bit different!

    Re: Guess what I've bought....

I do like the XE series - have done since they were introduced. The XE-1 was one of the first cameras I really lusted after. And although I did consider selling the one I finally acquired a few months ago I'm quite glad to say that I still have it, and it's still lovely. :)

I tested the shutter on it shortly after I got it, and it turned out to be the most accurate on any camera I own, ancient or modern, barring one - the Contax G2. The latter was almost unbelievably accurate - down to fractions of a percent - so it was no shame for Minnie to lose out there. The metering pattern is a bit weird though - that's my only criticism. Well, that and no MLU.

Yes - it was you getting one that reminded me that I was interested. The XE-5 is a cheaper version, but nonetheless intersting.

At last Minolta have decided to come out of the closet and release a digital SLR. I was quite pleased to see that unlike another supposed digital SLR it is to be a retro fit in terms of accepting the older lenses. I love my 800si to bits and have the benefit of a Canon D60 (sorry for swearing in this forum) but am keen to see the D7D as I have a number of lenses and may be persuaded to ditch the D60 (if err in doors doesn't hear of it). I still remain a loyal Minolta fan!
