The Aussies could have chosen Swedish or German diesel powered boats, but for some reason went with the French, knowing that the design would have to be modified to take a diesel power plant.

You probably ought to adjust your content filter. There's not much point in me (or other members, for that matter) writing non-sensical rubbish, only for you to take it seriously. ;)

Them and also the nuclear subs graveyard at Rosyth. Some them have been parked (left to rot) for 41 years with no successive Gvt showing any inclination to deal with thm.

Close the bases and you’re putting many out of work. Hard choice.

No, still easy. Recall a FOI which revealed just how few jobs were actually associated with the base.

My solution is simply - let's relocate them to Dangie's back yard. OK sorry for his neighbours but heh - obviously he will find a way to bring jobs to his area.

Did that claim analyse the number of non-direct jobs that would be affected by closing the base?

Not sure if you mean me, or not, but if so I hope they've got wheels as I live 60 miles from the sea :)

Wheels can be provided. You do value work in your area?

Move them to Devonport. Shallow water? No problem. We utilise obsolete warheads to blast a choice of deep water channels.

    Oi!! Bu**er off.
The south-west is not available for "blasting deep water channels", thank you very much.

There was a report somewhere which reckons one idea is to move them to America or France.
But we have taken back control.

I don't know. When I lived near Tavistock, many years ago, some of my neighbours would have approved of a series of explosions to separate Cornwall from the mainland. "Let them have their bleedin' Cornish Republic and welcome to it" as one bloke told me... ;)

I'm sure somewhere like Saudi Arabia or Iran would welcome them. Solved!

Saudi might consider subs that do not run on oil bad for business.;)

I'm sure they'd find a market for them though!
