I know!! Horrifying isn't it? I'll be well gone by 2050. As you imply though, 1990 seems like yesterday.
When I was a child, I always remember the saying "Life's too short to......". At the time I thought that's nonsense, life will drag on and last forever. Wrong again!
I remember when being told that dinner would be ready in 'half an hour' it meant certain starvation because half an hour was aaaaaaaaaaages!
With moderate luck I may still be around in 2050 (in my mid eighties). I doubt my pension will have reached the point where I could afford to retire by then - it's currently looking like I need to work till I'm at least 150 and the likely date of my retirement is steadily moving back. Surely 1990 was only yesterday, there are parts of it that I remember very clearly (somehow I can't manage that for 2050).
