    Good Morning Geoff
Is it as green and pleasant with you as it is here?
Hate? Campaign? Never been in a Jessops in my life. I found David's info that 40 6x4's could be had there for £6 interesting. Could be a help to my neighbour who still has my Nikon :( Not in the mood for photography, so no problem really.
Last evening Will and I made it to MSN and guess what? He couldn't perform. Blamed his mic <img src="/img/wwwthreads/wink.gif"> but we know better.
Weekly newspaper time now so Jesse Cook will have to find another bird to play his guitar to.
The pics I look forward to will be from Raz's girlfiend's new camera though I should like to see any, including those of Dear Will.

    Who are Jessops?

the reason i have a big thing agaisnt jessops, and most people i know share this view, is they are monopolising the photography market, they have made so many indepdant local shops shut down, and those shops were just a source of fun knowledge and good deals, i think that is very wrong, i have a problem with any large chain store that encroches on others teritory.
i boycott it, and still do becuase the camera wasnt my purchase. i just try and buy everyhting from indepdant local shops. jessops is the evil capitalism side of photography. i just hope they go out of business as they are runing the trade.

I bought one from the devon camera exchange in torquay with a sigma 28-80apochromatic glazed macro doodah watzit blah blah blah for £408 (they threw in a bag, yellow filter,uv filter,2 rolls colour film, 1 roll black/white film) if thats any help and Jessops were willing to match anything I threw at them internet or not, but the price match in the uk...i don't know.
I am now busy taking tonnes of crap pictures and just the occassional good one and have just succeded in bludging a 70-300 sigma apochromatic doodah-watzit off the good lady-hurray!
Give the business to your local small dealer and not to the big boys.
    Best of luck...:)

Very nice idea for a post!!!

Perhaps there should be adedicated area for keeping Jessops to their word on beating prices!!??

Yeah, we could call it the "Promises Promises" area Phil!

So why not support your local independant camera shop then instead of farting about looking for the cheapest deal and get Jessops to match it. It smacks of double standards when you criticise Jessops for supposedly closing down local shops, then using them simply for their price match policy.
It would seem to me that it's 'customers' like you who shut down the local shops rather than chains such as Jessops.
I suggest you practice what you preach.

    like i said....
you should read my posts more carefully, before you kick off with me.
it wasnt my purchase. no local (50 mile radius) camera shops had an F80. (there also isnt a independant camera shop in north devon thanks to jessops)
and she wanted it this week.
i do practise what i preach, i just dont force others to do so.. i recomend it though. do you shop in supermarkets? its the same thing.
we have had this discussion before. how about closing the thread?

So if there isn't a camera shop in north Devon, where did you buy the camera? A local Ford dealer?

So that narrows it down to about 200 shops!

That's strange, I've always thought Barnstable was in Devon, North Devon in fact, but you insist there isn't a camera shop in North Devon.
So either somebody must have moved Barnstable without telling me, or you are talking out of the wrong orifice.
But I'm pretty sure if Barnstable had moved we would have heard about it!
    I rest my case!

I bought my first Nikon in Barnstaple and from an excellent independent retailer. But that was 5 years ago.

To bury this once and for all.
    1. You say there are no camera shops in North Devon yet you bought a camera at Jessops in Barnstaple. Barnstaple is in North Devon and Jessops sell cameras, therefore there IS a camera shop in North Devon.
    2. You say you hope Jessops go out of business, well the good news is the hole in your arse will heal up first, and that at least will stop you talking CRAP, so stop your whinging you cretin.

you have a serious attitude problem.
not used to posts like that on this board! calm down a little...

to clear this up once and for-all,
i said there wasnt an INDEPENDANT camera shop in N.Devon that had a nikon f80 in stock, of course there are jessops and dixons etc.. so, she had to buy it in jessops. that was it.. wasnt my purchase.
and why does somewhere that sells camera's become a camera shop.. does argos and boots count as camera shops?

and, i do hate jessops, and have never bought anyhting from them.

you have just got your wires crossed mate. if you re-read the posts i belive you will see the error of your ways..

maybe the hole in my arse will close up, but you will have to take your head out of your own to see it.

Now now boys, "little birds in their nest agree etc." (unless you happen to be a Cuckoo of course). What we have here is a classic case of youth (Raz) versus experience (Geoff). Youth (Raz) is perceived by experience (Geoff) as being idealistic, naive and gullable (read as "Pain in the arse spotted youth") whereas experience (Geoff) is perceived as fuddy-duddy, Anachronistic and set in his ways (read as "grumpy old bastard") Now being in the "grumpy old bastard" category myself and having two teenage children who never cease to get up my nose and annoy me, I can see both sides of this argument. Now that we have isolated the cause of this conflict what I want you two to do is shake hands and kiss and make up (and no tounges!) Ok Raz, you first, hold out that Olive branch. I said OLIVE BRANCH Raz, that's a furkin great big stick! Now Geoff, you next. No. Stop hitting Raz over the head with that rolled up copy of the Jessops catalogue! Right, that's better. Now we can all retreat to the lounge and get some drinks in.
Right Raz, mine's a triple brandy. Whaddya mean you ain't buying me no triple brandy! Why you can just go stick your head up your.....
Right Geoff, where's me pork scratchings? Whaddya mean you can buy your own pork scratchings! Why I hope your R.Soul closes over you, you......

Crash, tinkle, thump, wallop, take that you.....keerrthud, bop, crunch, ouch, lemmie go ya bassa, eeek, you tweaked my nose.....

Big(oh dear, and it was all going so well up until then!)Will
