Damsel ID Please

    Was laying the last few edging bricks on the new pond today and this little fella landed next to me. Apologies for the poor IQ. It was a rush job. I have only ever seen the blue variety before so any help with identifying this one gratefully received. @MJB @MickLL

    Mick is the expert. I'd say female blue-tailed, but prepared to be corrected.

    I agree. It's not a common form but looks like a variant known as infuscans-obsoleta. Unfortunately the photo isn't really good enough to be sure - but I'd go with 80% as they say on millionaire!

    By coincidence I photographed one yesterday. It's not a great shot but I wanted a pic of this variant.

    Thanks chaps. I'll try and get a better shot (instantly regrets selling 90mm macro lens!). It's time I took an interest in the creatures that inhabit our garden pond.
