This thread is for posting of FirstView pictures for the 1st of August, 2009. Please read the main About FirstView post, if you have not done so already. You may post only one image here, and it must have been taken on the 1st of August, 2009.

Please remember to include the basic details - time and place of shooting, and what we're looking at. If you want to put in a short paragraph explaining what's going on, or why you chose that one, or whatever, then please do, but keep it brief and relevant. Any discussion beyond that can go in the 'Comments' thread. Please do not post comments or other replies here - they will be deleted. This thread is for FirstView image posting only.

The picture thread will remain open for a few days in the first instance, so please try to get your contributions in promptly. People who are perhaps away from home, or need time for film processing, or are otherwise unable to post their images in the initial time slot should pm me - I'll re-open the thread later in the month for late additions. In all cases please remember that the forum image posting rules apply (see the 'POSTING IMAGES' sticky post, which can be found in the Appraisal Gallery).

Finally, once again I would like to draw your attention to the FirstView Gallery site - we would like as many contributors as possible to make use of this for hosting their FirstView images in order to maintain as complete an archive as possible for the future. Of course if you prefer not to you are still welcome to contribute to the FirstView threads with images hosted elsewhere.

    Stripped and ready

    Bet the title got you!!!

1st flight of stairs stripped and ready for the carpet fitters on Monday. Just two landings, another flight of stairs and the bathroom to go.........

BTW - couldn't get the August folder to show in the dropdown on the firstview site, so I stuck the pic in July.
Then the August folder appeared after I'd placed the photo file!

Taken this morning at 10.30am. Quite a few folks there - wonder how many I've talked to on here but don't know what they look like to go up and start having a chat. :D Lisa.

    Me by Him

Bit of a cheat this month; this is by my three year old, Dylan, on the Pentax he got for his birthday last week. Too young for his own account here so...

I went to visit the Landscape Exhibition in Southwell - this is a view of the inside of the building - fantastic place.

Taken with my Canon 20D (and its really loud mirror that echoed through the halls) around 11am 1st Aug 2009.

    Checking On The Ponies

I've introduced three one-year-old Dartmoor geldings to graze on Windbury Head Camp, an Iron Age settlement. Thanks go to Simon Berry, the Grazing Links Officer from Devon Wildlife Trust for arranging it and to John Irish, the ponies owner.

Had a lovely evening, went to see 'Moon' at the Od**n in Swiss Cottage, then wandered up Finchley Road looking for somewhere to eat. Decided on Eriki's, an Indian place I've always meant to go to. It looks like a smart chain from the outside, an upmarket Nando's, but the food is fantastic! This was the Vegetarian Panorama - a mixed starter - puri, dosa, pakora, shingora and aloo. The main was to die for! Three courses, plus wine, coffee and service for two for £75 - I will be back! :D

    Date & Time: 01 August 2009, 20:48:22
Location: Eriki's, Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage
    Camera: Canon Powershot S3 IS
    Notes: Av 2.8, ISO 800

    The Cobb in Twlight

I spent the morning driving around in thick mist finding someone to sell me some glass, then the afternoon dodging the rain to mend a widow. Finally the weather cleared up at about dusk, so I went for a walk , and the above is the result
