Any ideas what this is??

    eBay pics looked clean, but when I tilt the lens towards a light source or shine a torch through I’m greeted with this !!!

    Any ideas

    Yuk! I'd guess balsam seperation, but (a) I don't know if lenses are still stuck together with the stuff and (b) surely a lens that age wouldn't be doing it?

    Can’t tell. Either some weird internal reflection like the colours you can sometimes see in a soap bubble or on the front element of a lens when you clean it or, if it has structure, fungus.

    Well I tried it briefly on a 40d and it seems to AF ok. But, I really wasn’t expecting it to be like this so will hopefully be able to return for a refund.

    Yes, I would say that two bonded elements are separating. I have no idea with what they are bonded.
