When I change the shutter speed by more than 3 stops or thereabouts the shutter speed bounces back to the starting point. eg trying to move from30 secs I can move the dial slowly to get to an 8 or 4 seconds and theshutterdisplay bounces back to 30 secs. I use a original Sony battery. I thought the camera might have got damp so it has been on a radiator for a couple of days but to no effect. A similar thing happens when I change the f number but I can get more changes before it bounces back. Other functions for the control dial work OK
Any suggestions please about what is causing the problem and how to fix it? Or is it the death of a consumer electrical product?

The usual advice is to do a reset to factory settings then set it up again. It might be worth removing the battery for a while and then putting it back in, look at it this way, neither will cost anything.

Setting the reset default has done the job!
    Brilliant result.
    Thanks for the advice.
I was fearing another trip to Newton and Ellis or binning it.
