I've gone and lost the cover to the hotshoe on my A100.

1. Is this a real problem (Or is it mostly cosmetic)?

2. Is it possible to get a spare?

These things exist solely to get lost. If they really mattered the manufacturers would use a sensible captive slide cover.

Spares are available via various resellers - try ebay.

Otherwise just make sure the contacts are clean before using an external flash.

 

On the reverse of the viewfinder cover device fitted on the camera strap is a docking place for the hot-shoe cover ....

I've actually just found one on Jessops website, but it's 28 days delivery and it's not available as collect at store. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they can do.

Only one of my cameras has a hotshoe cover......and that's DIY job!

The rest have managed without one for many years. I wouldn't worry about it...

Only thing is that the Alpha looks strange without one (Way it's designed I suppose). Went into Jessops to inquire but they told me I had to go via the website so I've ordered it and hopefully might get it before New Year. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

 

There are a couple on eBay right now.
