Edinburgh - 41pts, Second place

Mark Scholey, Manchester Canon EOS-1Ds, 85mm, 1/1250sec at f/1.8 Mark says he always sees images as black & white. On this day in Edinburgh it was flat and grey, which he knew would give him rich tones. 'I chose a lower viewpoint to emphasise the singers,' he says. 'Then I used an aperture that would render the crowd as one mass so they wouldn't detract, yet it kept enough detail to make the second singer stand out.' Judges say 'This is a timeless image that's been well thought out and executed. A textbook example of great composition.'
