Peter Clapham
Peter is one of our Digital Imaging Course students – his tutor is AP's Angela Nicholson
"There are many subtle differences between digital and film and the Digital Course is enabling me to come to terms with these by providing me with focused knowledge, guidance and honest criticism. The discipline of 'homework' has made me attempt many things that I would have avoided and this is improving the way I look at things and handle a camera.
The course is encouraging me to experiment and become more adventurous in my picture taking. Above all, in spite of all the digital magic, the important thing, as always, is to envisage the picture that you want and get it right in the camera. Work on the computer is then limited and all the fun is in taking good pictures."
Vicky Fry
Vicky is a recent graduate from the AP Diploma Course. Her tutor was Chris Gatcum.
"It was with a mixture of delight, relief and sadness that I received my certificate after completing the AP Diploma in Photography course. Delight, because my marks far exceeded my expectations; relief, because I'd initially doubted I'd be able to complete any modules, let alone the whole course; and sadness because the course was great fun!
I now have confidence, not only in taking the shots but also in assessing my own work. I recently resigned from my job as a lawyer. Although I now work with gardens, the course has inspired me to attempt to enter the professional field – after all, you only live once!"
Sarah Hulse
Sarah recently completed the AP Diploma Course. Her tutor was Garry McNamara
"My experience as an AP Diploma student was a very positive one. Each module brought with it a new and exciting challenge, and I felt I could express myself creatively, while learning all the technical background information at the same time. My tutor was very supportive, giving praise, helpful tips, plus the all-important constructive criticism, which helped me out immensely.
The course materials were well laid out and very user friendly with helpful examples of various images. Now, when I look back at my course work I can visibly see how much my photographic skills have improved. I have learnt to use my camera properly, and used a whole range of formats and styles including, film, colour and monochrome. I also have a lovely collection of photos that I am really proud of. I am very glad that I did the course, it has helped me gain a lot of self confidence and the ability to take better photographs."
Bas Montgomery
Bas is one of Garry's students on the Digital Imaging Course
"As I'm retired and have the time, I felt doing a photography course would help and challenge me. I am pleased to be able to say that the course exceeded my expectations. The workbook is clearly written, succinct and takes you through all the basics. It teaches you about your digital camera, and what's important to know about using your software.
The approach emphasises the need to get the basics (such as exposure or white balance) as good as you can, and then software adjustments can be subtle and unobtrusive. The exercises help you get to know your camera and the feedback has always been really useful and constructive – and getting Photoshop CS2 at half price is worth the entrance fee alone."
