The model feature a large 1in sensor, premium 24-200mm f/2.8 lens, impressive tiltable LCD screen and full manual control.

All of this technology does come at a cost, with the RX10 priced at £1k on launch, however if you want to very best in bridge camera technology it's difficult to look further than the RX10

Although it might feature a price tag in a completly different region to the Sony RX10, it feature a lens that was arguably more eye-catching at launch.

Capable of a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its 25-600mm zoom range, the Panasonic Lumix FZ200 is one of the most impressive in its class.

The model also offers Raw and JPEG capture, as well as manual control, an articulated screen and 1.312-million-dot resolution EVF.

Canon PowerShot SX50 HS

Boasting a 50x optical zoom (24-1,200mm equivalent) the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS features one of the most extensive focal ranges of any fixed lens camera on the market. 

The optical image stabiliser does an excellent job of making that zoom range usable.

The additional of manual exposure modes and raw shooting are also welcome, as are all the hallmarks of Canon's digital camera heritage.

Street price: £240

Despite being on the market for a few years now, the Fujifilm X-S1 is still widely available and now represents fantastic value for money.

It offers a 3in tilting LCD screen and electronic viewfinder, while an effective sensor shift stabilisation system does a good job of ensuring crisp photos even at the longer end of the zoom.

The most appealing aspect for many will be the DSLR-esque styling, including the manual control zoom and various control dials.
