Features include a 1.74m-dot OLED EVF, and a ‘redesigned, intuitive user interface’.

Ichiro Kitao, head of Panasonic’s digital still camera business, claimed: ‘The Lumix G ecosystem has constantly pushed the boundaries of innovation and the Lumix GH3 marks another significant step forward for the industry.

‘The range and depth of features, combined with an intuitive user experience, make the Lumix GH3 a powerful and versatile tool for professionals and serious amateurs alike.’

Panasonic has included a 3.5mm headphone port, following feedback from professional film makers.

The 550g model sports a 3in, free-angle (614,000-dot resolution) OLED screen and includes an optimised low-pass filter to help reduce moiré effects.

Built to be dust and splash-proof, the magnesium-bodied 16MP GH3 boasts a maximum equivalent ISO of 12,800 that can be extended to 25,600 (minimum 125).

There is a mechanical and electronic shutter option, and Wi-Fi connectivity which allows users to take photos using a smartphone.

The GH3 also has wireless external flash capability.

The GH3’s EVF offers a 1.42x magnification and 100% field of view.

Panasonic has also unveiled a new 35-100mm f/2.8 OIS X lens, a metal bodied optic that includes Power OIS and also designed to be dust and splash-proof.

Panasonic claims that the GH3 can shoot at six frames per second at full resolution.

The GH3 is expected to cost £1,099 body-only; £2,000 with a 12-35mm lens and £1,700 with a 14-140mm.

A battery grip will cost £250; microphone £300; wireless flash £259; and an extra battery £70.
