Sony is set to launch a business division dedicated to digital imaging, investment in which it sees as key to the firm's future success.

The move is part of a company-wide overhaul of management, announced earlier today.

The new management structure aims to ‘drive revitalisation and growth across Sony’s core electronics businesses’, according to a statement issued by Sony bosses in Tokyo.

‘Sony is positioning digital imaging, game and mobile as the three core pillars of its electronics business, and going forward aims to concentrate its resources in these areas to further reinforce the businesses.’

Currently, digital imaging forms part of Sony’s Personal Imaging & Sound Business Group.

Shigeki Ishizuka has been appointed president of the new Digital Imaging Business Group.

He will take up the position on 1 April, when the new management structure takes effect.

As yet, there is no word on how the changes will affect other Sony staff.
