A camera disguised as a gun fetched more than 45,000 at auction in Austria on Saturday.

The Enjalbert Photo Revolver de Poche is one of six known surviving examples.

Dating from around 1883 its cylinder contains a magazine mechanism designed to hold ten 16x16mm photographic plates.

It was made by Albert Posso, a gunsmith, for French photographic company Enjalbert.

Also starring at the Westlicht Photographica auction in Vienna was the first Leica M8 ever made. It bowed out for more than 19,000. Proceeds will be donated to Reporters Without Borders, a body that works to improve safety for journalists.
