Olympus has dropped strong hints that it may one day launch a high-end Micro Four Thirds camera ‘if the market demands it’.

So far, the firm has only showcased a compact-style Micro Four Thirds camera, a model of which was on show at PMA in Las Vegas last week.

But the firm emphasised that targeting the mass market with a compact-style camera is just the beginning.

Yoshiyuki Oyama, senior marketing manager at Olympus Japan’s SLR Business Division, told Amateur Photographer (AP): ‘In two, three or five years, we can consider various types of products, not only entry-level but also high-end products.’

Oyama confirmed that the first in the firm’s Micro Four Thirds range is due this summer.

More from AP’s interview with Olympus will appear in an upcoming issue of AP.
